The Abu Dhabi Authority of Culture & Heritage
(ADACH) organizes the 5th session of Emirates Photography
Competition (EPC) under the patronage of the International
Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP). EPC is aimed
at promoting photographic arts in the UAE through
encouraging and attracting a large number of photographers
to participate, as well as nurturing young talents
and supporting established professional through workshops,
master classes, forums, individual and collective
galleries inside and outside the Country. Since its
conception, the Competition has not saved an effort
to acquire and publish artistic works of photographers.
Being one of the renowned professional events in the
Middle East, EPC invites outstanding works from different
styles, schools and sizes whether synthetic, panoramic,
negative and positive slides, digital, modern technical
artistic processing, or images of different sizes.
However, participating works must respect performance
values and standards of photographic art as well as
the rules of FIAP.
In each annual session, EPC will have a Main Theme
that will encourage photographer to explore fresh
new depths. There are also four additional themes
which may vary from year to year.
In its 5th session, EPC celebrates Al Hasan Bin Al
Haythem Al Basri (965-1038 AD). Bin Al Haythem was
an Arab scientist who made important contributions
to the science of optics as well as physics, geometry,
astronomy and philosophy. He made many breakthroughs
in the realm of optics which gave the way to the development
of camera. Al Basri gives one of his titles, the Prince
of the Light, to the 5th session of EPC.
Believing in the inclusive nature of art and its timeless
ability to unite interests and creations of human
beings everywhere as well as the potential of an image
to open the door for more interaction and communication
among peoples, participation in the coming 5th session
of EPC will be open for all photographers from around
the world. It will have also additional new section
reserved for participants from the UAE to live ADACH’s
mission of nurturing and developing young local artistic
talents in the Country. The coming 5th session will
moreover reserve a special award for the best three
group participations by international photography
associations and clubs to support the role played
by such groups in developing the cultural impact of
photography.
